Daryl Faulkner and his wife, Laura, turned to Goodwill Easterseals for help. Daryl, who works for GES monitoring cameras in our Asset Protection department, needed a new van, and asked our staff for the resources to help him find one. As luck would have it, a generous member of the community contacted us three weeks after the Faulkners’ request and said she was looking to donate an accessible van and power chair used by her late husband. She was very clear that she did not want these items sold, but wanted them to go to someone who needed them.
Chara Brown, who works in Mission Services, immediately suggested that the van be given to Daryl. As a member of our team for many years and as a previous Easterseals child, Daryl has found independence through the power of work as well as services needed to help him succeed throughout his life. His new van arrived right on our doorstep, and today, he got to take it home. Daryl’s grin as he backed his chair onto the ramp of the van and into his new ride was absolutely priceless, both for the family and staff who were present.
We are so grateful to this donor for making Daryl’s life more accessible and giving him the freedom to live his life to the fullest. “We love that Daryl had this opportunity,” said his mom as she watched Chara hand the van key to her son and his wife. “This was truly a blessing.”
