ADULT EDUCATION Weekly classes are provided to adults who are in need of basic skill remediation and GED preparation.  Small classes, taught by program staff instructors, are offered at 5 GES locations throughout Mobile.  Additionally, outreach program sites, staffed by GES instructors and/or volunteers, make Adult Education more accessible to the vast communities throughout our region.

GED TESTING The Official GED Test is administered weekly in the GES PearsonVue Testing Center located at the Gordon Smith Learning Center adjacent to our Administrative Office.  Appointments for testing are secured through an on-line registration process.  The Official GED is also administered in Metro Jail and Strickland Youth Center through our two PearsonVUE mobile test labs.

VOLUNTEER TUTORING Individual instruction is provided by specially trained volunteers to help adult non-readers obtain basic literacy skills. Students and volunteers work together one to two times each week at convenient locations throughout the community. Volunteers are also placed in our weekly Adult Education classes where they assist staff instructors in providing students the individualized attention and mentoring necessary to make progress.

YOUTH EXCELLING FOR SUCCESS (YES) Forty at risk youth between the ages of 17 to 21 are supported and mentored in multiple areas through this WIA funded program. Academic upgrading/ GED preparation, work readiness, job placement assistance, and post-secondary enrollment are targeted to help get this underserved group on the right track, and ultimately, have a successful start into adulthood.
