In Mobile County, 27% of the adult population are at the lowest level of literacy and in Alabama 35% of adults do not have a high school diploma.
Most adult non-readers want to change their lives by learning to read. They come from all walks of life. Many suffer from low self-esteem andhide their disability from family, friends, and employers. Most can learn to read if given a chance.
