What is SCSEP?
SCSEP is a program funded by the Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration that provides job training and employment opportunities for eligible individuals age 55 and older. Our goal is to help participants gain the skills necessary to obtain permanent employment, helping senior workers achieve economic independence and an improved lifestyle.
Goodwill Easter Seals serves Mobile, Baldwin and Escambia Counties in Alabama through this program and partners with over fourty non-profit or public
agencies to provide work experience for seniors at over sixty sites.
How Does SCSEP Work? Once enrolled in SCSEP, an Individual Employment Plan is developed based on the unique skills, experience, training needs, interests and challenges of each participant. The participant is then matched with a Host Agency where they will train for 20 hours per week at minimum wage until their employment goals are met. In addition to the hands-on training received on their training assignments, seniors also develop job seeking skills through quarterly Job Clubs, and work closely with Program Managers to locate appropriate jobs with private employers.
